PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- What's a Halloween party without a little orange and black?
Group Starts Petition To Move The Date Of Halloween
Gritty, the Philadelphia Flyers new mascot, visited patients, their families and staff at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children Wednesday morning.
"It cheered me up," Jahkare Cerdan said of the visit. "I was down because I'm in the hospital, but seeing that, it cheered me up, it made me feel better."
And what about Gritty?
"I don't know what he is, but I like him, though" Cerdan said. "
Legendary Flyers goalie Bernie Parent was also there to spread joy. Parent makes the trip to St. Christopher's every Halloween.
"You look at them, and I feel you bring love," Parent said of his visits. "To always look at life, don't look at problems. You can study problems but look at solutions."
"And the solution today is to show love and happiness, a big smile. Kids respond to this."
Some of the younger patients couldn't take their eyes off the furry orange character.

Others took pictures and even walked away with a Gritty autograph.
Parent had a different reaction to Gritty, though.
"He looks like (Jakub) Voracek a little bit," Parent said.
