"Greenies" Given Out To High School Filmmakers In Montgomery County Tonight

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. (CBS) - Dozens of young filmmakers from about the region will walk the "green" carpet tonight at Upper Dublin High School's Performing Arts Center for the 6th annual Greenfield Youth Film Festival.
It's not quite the Oscars, but when you're a high school filmmaker from Philadelphia and suburbs this is a pretty glamorous soire. Jill Feldman, executive director of the Greenfield Youth Film Festival, says two dozen "Greenies" will be handed out tonight to the best among the 225 short subjects, seven minutes max, in a variety of genres and categories.
As you might imagine, some of these young artists understand cinema techniques.
"I'm glad I'm not a judge because it's very difficult because many of them are so good and you know we want to acknowledge everybody for all the work that they put in," Feldman said. "But obviously that's not possible so we give awards to 24 of the filmmakers."
There are three major categories, narrative, documentary and experimental, and prizes include $3,600 in cash and a day on the set of an upcoming movie production in the region.
