Great Weekend Weather!

By Steven Strouss

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Time to grab the sunglasses and enjoy another weekend of fantastic weather. Sunshine will dominate the forecast through Sunday with temperatures in the low to mid 80s but the UV index will be high so remember your sunscreen. If you are headed to the Poconos or the beaches the weather looks great at these locations too, just slightly cooler with highs in the mid to upper 70s during the next three days.

Clouds may roll in late Sunday ahead of an approaching cold front that will bring unsettled weather to the region on Monday and Tuesday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to start the work week before high pressure pushes in and brings us nice weather again by the middle part of next week.

The countdown to summer is a little over two weeks away now. Summer officially begins on Saturday, June 21 but the summer-like pattern is already in full swing with warm temperatures and frequent storms. There is just one stat missing and that is our first 90 degree day. The Philadelphia region has not reached 90 degrees yet this year and it is unlikely based on our extended forecast that we will do so within the next 7 days. We looked into the record books and found that June 8th was the latest day to reach the first 90 degree temperature during the last decade. Back in 1972, the first 90 degree day occurred on July 14th which was the latest day ever to first reach that temperature. We will see where 2014 pans out but one thing is for sure and that is few people are complaining about not achieving this degree of heat.
