Grand Imperial Poobah: Should The Eagles Trade Mark Sanchez?

By Stan "The Grand Imperial Poobah" Hochman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- (Editor's Note) Stan Hochman, a Daily News sports columnist for 55 years, has been appearing on 94WIP's morning show for over a year now, settling disputes (and starting new ones) as the "Grand Imperial Poobah." He brings that persona to CBSPhilly.com/poobah on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we welcome input on which issues you want the Poobah to take a good, hard look at. Send requests and ideas for The Poobah to WIPpoobah@gmail.com.

Without further ado, here's The Poobah.

Phil E. Phan: The Rams lost quarterback Sam Bradford for the season with a torn ACL. Should the Eagles swap backup Mark Sanchez to St. Louis?

Poobah: It would have to be a trade that knocks the socks off Chip Kelly, and it might take two sticks of dynamite to knock the socks off Kelly. He says he will listen to any offers and a dazzling performance by third-stringer Matt Barkley in Thursday's meaningless charade might change his thinking, but unless Barkley goes 20-for-20 for 800 yards….

Sanchez is solid insurance for the Eagles in case something happens to Nick Foles, who missed time last year with a concussion. Sanchez has adjusted to Kelly's schemes, and had an impressive training camp  performing well in pre-season games against the other team's second stringers. If the Rams think they can get Sanchez for future draft picks, "forgetaboutit." A legitimate pass rusher, that would be different. When Sanchez was out there on the free agent market, the Rams passed, and went with Shaun Hill. They will stick with Hill, and the Eagles will happily keep Sanchez and hope he spends the season with a cap on and a clipboard in his hands. Meanwhile, they'd better solve their kicker problem quickly.
