Governor Wolf To Sign LGBT Executive Orders

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has scheduled a ceremony Thursday to sign LGBT anti-discrimination executive orders.

Governor Wolf will sign executive orders covering state agencies under his jurisdiction and state contractors -- orders prohibiting discrimination, including discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender expression or identity.

Wolf announced his intentions during an interview Wednesday on Pittsburgh radio station WESA, citing a decision by PayPal to scuttle plans for an operations center in North Carolina, which has a new law preventing municipalities from implementing their own gender identity anti-discrimination laws.

"This is not something we want in [Pennsylvania] – we want to be known as a welcoming state," Wolf said. "We want to be known as a place that's open for everybody."

The governor says he held off on taking executive action waiting for legislative action on a non-discrimination bill that has so far not occurred.
