Gov.-Elect Wolf Joins Volunteers for MLK Day Event in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Governor-elect Tom Wolf participated today in a Martin Luther King Day event near the state capitol, one day before he takes the oath of office as Pennsylvania's new governor.
Wolf stopped by to help volunteers as part of a King Day of Service event at the Downey School, in Harrisburg. The governor-elect said service is the best way to honor Dr. King.
Noting that he is an MIT graduate, Wolf said he calculates that if every Pennsylvanian picked up one piece of trash a week for a year, it would come to seven thousand tons of garbage.
"That's how powerful individual action is, and that's why what we're doing today is really important," he said. "It's not just symbolic. It's not just an effort to get you to come out and take pictures. It's actually important."
Wolf, meanwhile, continues to round out his cabinet, announcing today that Lancaster Schools superintendent Pedro Rivera will serve as education secretary and former Philadelphia state lawmaker Kathy Manderino (D-Mont./Phila.) will be secretary of the Department of Labor and Industry.
