Gov. Christie To Give Speech On Academic Standards
PEMBERTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is set to lay out his vision for academic standards, an area where both Republicans and Democrats have internal disagreements.
Christie's speech Thursday afternoon at Burlington County College comes as he continues to prepare for a possible run for president and has been giving his position on several key issues.
The Republican has often battled with New Jersey's largest teachers union over labor issues and educational policy.
He has strongly supported using student test data to help determine their teachers' pay and he favors using taxpayer money to pay for private schools for some pupils.
He has also upset some Republicans who oppose national Common Core school standards, which are in place in New Jersey.
