Gov. Christie Orders Flags At Half-staff On Friday Following Death Of Ocean County Detective

TRENTON, NJ (CBS) – Gov. Christie has ordered all flags at half-staff on Friday after the death of a 44-year-old detective from Ocean County.

Christie signed the order on Thursday, which requires the flags be lowered at all State buildings in honor of John Scott Stevens, who lived in Forked River.

Stevens reportedly passed away from injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident that happened while he was on duty.

"Detective Stevens' devotion to public service and the protection of others makes him a hero and a true role model for all New Jerseyans. It is appropriate and fitting for the State of New Jersey to recognize his commitment to the welfare and safety of others, to mark his passing, to honor his memory, and to remember his family as they mourn their tragic loss," said Governor Christie in a statement.

Stevens was a 15-year-veteran of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
