Gov. Christie Appoints Jamie Fox To Head NJ Dept. of Transportation

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- The Republican governor of New Jersey has turned to a top Democrat to take over the state's Department of Transportation.

If the name Jamie Fox sounds familiar in Garden State political circles, it should.  He served as transportation commissioner, and later as chief of staff, to former governor Jim McGreevey.

Fox (at right in photo) also worked for onetime state senator Robert Torricelli, and helped get President Obama elected in 2008.

Gov. Chris Christie cites Fox's résumé as the main reason for his selection.

"There's going to be a lot of transportation issues we're going to need to deal with, and having someone with his experience, not only in transportation but in this building, will be an extraordinary help to me and to the people of this state," he said.

The appointment requires state senate confirmation, but that was not expected to be a problem.
