GOP Gov. Christie's Campaign Reports $4.2 Million Raised

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie's campaign has raised $4.2 million for his White House bid — a number that lags behind many of his rivals.

Documents filed with federal regulators Thursday show the New Jersey governor's campaign has spent $2.8 million in the last three months.

That leaves him with less than $1.4 million cash on hand, millions less than many of his competitors.

The filing is the first look at the campaign's finances and spending.

Christie has struggled to gain traction in a crowded GOP field. But he and his campaign aides say they're confident they'll have enough money to be competitive in early-voting states.

A super PAC supporting Christie that can raise unlimited sums of money brought in $11 million in the first half of the year.
