#GivingTuesday Celebrates Fourth Year Of Charitable Donations

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We had Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday and now a day to help, it's #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday started in 2012 to kick off this holiday season of charitable giving. Katherina Rosqueta, Founding Executive Director of the Center for High Impact Philanthropy at the University of Pennsylvania says it's easy to take part.

"Make a donation to an organization that you care about, take that time to volunteer, give back not just with your funds, but with effort," she says. "The other is to raise awareness about organizations that you care about."

Rosqueta says if you don't have a favorite charity, do your homework, make sure the group you choose is legitimate and makes good use of the dollars it collects.

"Know that there's a difference between a good nonprofit and a good cause," she says. "Just because an organization is addressing a cause you care about doesn't necessarily mean it's a great one to give to."
