Giant LEGO Exhibit Opens At Franklin Institute

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A unique art exhibition opened Saturday at the Franklin Institute. More than 100 works are made entirely from LEGO pieces

Many visitors to The Art Of The Brick exhibit were marveling over the LEGO sculptures. Some of the favorites include a giant dinosaur, the liberty bell, and some of the more abstract works, like those inspired by the human figure.

The popular LEGO Star Wars products came to life when characters like Darth Vader, Chewbacca and an army of storm troopers milled about posing for pictures with guests of the science museum.

There were also stations set up where kids could make their own LEGO projects.

"I like to build cool stuff, like Ninja Turtle stuff," said 7-year-old Joshua Ziegler, a LEGO enthusiast from Cinnaminson, New Jersey, "and I have a Spiderman set. It's really cool building LEGOs."

Nine-year-old Aidan Peterson is from Ardmore, Pennsylvania. His LEGO airbus sculpture was also crowd-pleaser. Opening day visitors voted his piece one of the best designs in a kid competition.

"I think the challenge was the wings and the back," he said. "Getting the back on and trying to make the wings stay on."

As a winner, Aidan's project gets put on display at the show.

The Art Of The Brick runs for the next seven months at the Franklin Institute.
