Generous Donors Help Save 91-Year-Old Veteran's Pa. Home
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (CBS) - Strangers on the internet came together to help save the longtime home a Pennsylvania WWII veteran.
Ninety-one-year-old Abram Belles was on the brink of losing his Wilkes-Barre house after he fell behind paying taxes. He has lived in that home for almost 70 years.
Just weeks before the home was set to go on auction at a tax sale, a man who used to clean Belles' carpet set up a GoFundMe account. In one week, more than 200
people donated about $9,000.
"I don't think I can thank them enough," Belles said. "That shocked me."
Belles owed $8,000 in taxes. The money he received will pay off what he owes and should give him a comfortable cushion to get him ahead of the game from future tax payments.
