General Michael Flynn Says He Is Honored By VP Consideration

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Retired General Michael Flynn discussed his new book, Field of Fight, and the possibility that he could be named as Donald Trump's running mate as he takes on Hillary Clinton for the White House.

Flynn, while speaking with Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said it is a thrill just to be considered for such a position.

"I'm honored. That's where I am at. It's unbelievable for a kid from a little town in the state of Rhode Island to be even mentioned in the mix of the people being mentioned for an unbelievable honor, which would be the second highest office in this land...I found [Donald Trump] to be deadly serious about this country, which I appreciated."

He expressed confidence that the Republican nominee is the only candidate that can restore the nation's faith in government.

"I think what's critical is someone who understands what a vision for this country is. Someone who believes honestly and deeply that they can execute it. Someone that has strategic leadership skills and can solve complex problems and do it in a far different way than what we have seen in the political class in this country for decades. I think that's what resonates with a lot of people in this country because the lack of trust between federal government and the people of this country right now is such a wide gap, and I think that's what Donald Trump is bringing back."

Flynn also attacked the former Secretary of State, accusing her of putting the nation in danger for using a private email server while heading the Department.

"Director of the FBI, Jim Comey, basically told the American public, in no uncertain terms, that Hillary Clinton violated all sorts of laws, rules, policies, put our country's national security at high risk. Not low or medium risk, but high risk and then he went on to proceed to say, but I don't think that she did it intentionally. How do you not know that at that level? She has placed this country at, I think, severe risk and others that have done one percent of what she's done have lost their clearances, lost their livelihoods and been thrown out. In some cases, some people have gone to jail for it."
