Gas Prices Rise .02 In NJ, Could Drop By Summer
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gas prices rose by 2 cents over the last week in New Jersey, but the organization that measures price trends says they could drop by summer.
Figures released by AAA Mid-Atlantic show the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded rose from $2.16 to $2.18 in New Jersey last week. Nationally, the average stayed flat at $2.40 per gallon.
New Jersey's average is $1.20 lower than a year ago.
AAA says the biggest factor influencing lower prices continues to be the cost of crude oil.
If scheduled refinery maintenance ends smoothly and if crude prices remain relatively cheap, AAA predicts gas prices could hover near $2.00 by summer in some areas. It expects average prices to stay below $3.00 through the end of the year.
