PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A gas leak forced the evacuation of several homes in Northeast Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.

Crews with PGW were called to the scene at about 9:15 a.m. after reports of a strong gas odor at Cottman and Torresdale Avenues.

Officials with PGW quickly located the source of the gas leak and were able to seal it in a short amount of time.

As a precaution, the entire block of Torresdale Avenue near the scene was evacuated and residents were taken to the gym of nearby St. Hubert's High School. At about 10:45 a.m., residents were allowed to return to their homes.

There were no reports of any injuries or damage to any homes or businesses.
