Gallery Mall Donating Art, Including 2 Large Sculptures, Before Work Gets Started On Renovations

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The two block Center City mall known as the Gallery will be getting a new look, and it's distinct public art that has been on display for decades will be moved out too.

The artwork will need to be taken away by November so Gallery renovation work can start.

Julia Guerrero with the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority's Percent-For-Art Program is working with the owner PREIT to find new homes for the art, including two large sculptures outside the building.

"With the new construction that will happen the Gallery is going to be commissioning new works of art that is part of their development requirement. So in addition to fully funding the removal and relocation of the existing works of art they will also be commissioning new art as well."

The Gallery will be donating the art. The recipients have yet to be determined.
