Funeral Director Charged After Officials Discover Several Decomposed Bodies During Investigation
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police announced the arrest of Blair Hawkins on Tuesday. Hawkins, the funeral director at the Hawkins Funeral Home has been charged with three counts of Abuse of Corpse.
On Monday, the Department of State Bureau of Enforcement Investigation responded to a tip that Hawkins' funeral home, located at 5300 Vine Street, was operating without a license and still accepting deceased bodies.
According to authorities, Hawkins attempted to prevent Monday's investigation from happening.
Officials say upon investigating the preparations room, two decomposed bodies were found along with one embalmed body. The preparations room was also found to not be ventilated.
Two unmarked non-medical bags were also found containing human organs.
