Frigid Weather Has Local Rowers Hoping To Break The Ice

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Schuylkill River is frozen over. While it's a beautiful thing to look at, especially with the snow falling on the iced over river, rowers at Boathouse Row will tell you the ice is getting old.

"If it doesn't freeze you'll only have like two weeks where you have to be off the water," says David Judah with Penn AC.

David tells KYW Newsradio he'd be out as long its 28 degrees or higher, but no chance of that this year:

"This year it froze over, and then everything broke up for a week and a half, but it was too windy to go out. And then it refroze again."

Because of that, he says this year he hasn't been on the river since around New Years. That means indoors, on a rowing machine, which after two months which can get really old.

But David and other rowers just keep saying what we're all saying -- spring is right around the corner.
