Weather: Friday, Saturday Could Be Record-breaking Days

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Though a weekend storm waits in the wings, first we will have to deal with some potential record temperatures!

The Delaware Valley is already dealing with some biting cold this morning. As the wind picks up throughout the day, it is only going to get worse. Sun will mix with clouds, and don't be surprised to see a few flurries during the afternoon. Highs in the upper teens will feel more like the lower single digits, and will eventually fall below zero tonight. A wind chill advisory is in effect for the entire region through tomorrow morning.

Friday morning's record low of 1 degree will be threatened in Philadelphia, as well as other regional low marks. Tack on the wind and it'll feel well below zero, ranging from as high as -5 at the shore to as low as -35 up in the Poconos! This is some dangerous cold, so if you need to be outside, take all the necessary precautions.

Even with the gradually dying wind through Friday, it is still going to be downright cold. High temperatures will meddle in the teens, and record lows could once again be challenged on Saturday morning. Hey, at least we'll have some sunshine, right?

The weekend will bring a trade off. Temperatures will moderate into the low 30s on Saturday as a storm system approaches from the west. What will start off as snow will quickly change over to rain Saturday night into Sunday. Sunday will be the mild, and only the 3rd (and likely final) day of the month that will be above average.

The push continues for this month to crack the top 5 coldest Februaries of all time!
