Frank Rizzo Jr. To Run For At-Large Seat On Philadelphia City Council As Democrat

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- He's back! Frank Rizzo Jr. is planning to run for a City Council at-large seat -- as a Democrat.
Rizzo served on City Council for 16 years as a Republican -- then he lost in the 2011 Republican primary amid backlash over his participation in the city's controversial retirement program, better known as "DROP."
"I'm not going to run away from that," Rizzo says. "That was a mistake on my part. I misread the people of Philadelphia."
Now, he says, after three years on the sidelines, including switching parties last year, he wants to get back to tackling pressing issues.
Among them he lists "the educational system in Philadelphia" and "law and order, to make sure the police department is appropriately budgeted and appropriately staffed." Rizzo is the son and namesake of the late Frank Rizzo, who served as police commissioner and then mayor of Philadelphia during the 1960s and '70s.
