Former Philly NAACP President Jerry Mondesire Dies

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Jerry Mondesire, the former president of the Philadelphia NAACP, has died. He was 65.
Mondesire reportedly suffered a brain aneurysm recently while undergoing kidney dialysis.
His family says he died Sunday at Jefferson Hospital surrounded by family and close friends.
The civil rights leader served as president of the Philadelphia branch of the NAACP for more than a two decades. That ended last year after he was suspended by the national organization over questions about the financial management at the local chapter.
He also was publisher of the Philadelphia Sunday Sun newspaper and a founding member of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.
No details have been announced yet regarding a memorial service.
