Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Announces He Will Not Run For President

NEW YORK, N.Y., (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will not for president.

"It's clear to me that if I entered the race, I could not win," he wrote in an op-ed in Bloomberg View published Monday. "I believe I could win a number of diverse states -- but not enough to win the 270 Electoral College votes necessary to win the presidency."

Bloomberg, an independent, had said he was weighing a run, particularly in the face of possible Republican and Democratic nominations of Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, respectively.
