Former Eagle Garry Cobb: 'We Got A Lot Of Corruption In Our Political System In South Jersey'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Chris Stigall spoke with former Philadelphia Eagle Garry Cobb on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT about his campaign for Congress in New Jersey's First District.

Cobb, a Republican, said he felt called to run based on what he has witnessed in his community.

"Seeing what's going on over here in South Jersey, I just felt it was time for me to step up, at least somebody, to step up and stop some of the things going on over here. We got a lot of corruption in our political system in South Jersey. The Norcross family pretty much runs everything, and if you don't do business with them, you don't do business in South Jersey…I don't like the fact that they've been doing all this on the backs of one of the poorest cities in the United States, and that's Camden," he stated.

He indicated that the solving the problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs will be one of his top priorities if elected.

"I just want to be able to go down and serve this area in Congress. I want to see us have effective government. The VA system really bothered me. My dad is a Korean War veteran and I see guys who are having to wait 15 months to have surgery, and we are spending $56 billion on a system that is not effective. That bothers me," Cobb explained.

Cobb feels politicians need new ideas and new strategies to help the poor better their standing in life.

"The programs that have been tried for decades [are] trapping people in poverty rather than eliminating poverty. When you go in and you just throw money at the problem, they can't get it done from Washington. I want us less dependent on Washington. I want to see us incentivize people, incentivize businesses. That's when I think we're at our best, and that's what I want to see in South Jersey," he said.
