Forest fires scorch Media and Gloucester County

Crews contain fires in Delaware County and New Jersey

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two fires scorched areas of the Delaware Valley. The flames come as dry conditions have parched the region during May.

Firefighters are battling a brush fire on Briar Lane in Media. The Media bypass has reopened in both directions between the Blue Route and State Road after being closed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Upper Providence Police Department is asking for the public's help if you drove by the blaze. They are asking motorists who traveled on the bypass between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to contact them if they saw any vehicles parked on the shoulder of the road.

Across the Delaware River, the Box Turtle Fire in Gloucester County is 100% contained. The wildfire spread across 158 acres in the White Oaks Wildlife Management Area in Franklin and Monroe Townships.
