For the Youngest Philadelphians, a 'Countdown to Noon' Marks the New Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some Philadelphia children got a jump-start on New Year's Eve today with noontime celebrations tailored for kids.

Nest, a playspace at 13th and Locust Streets in center city, was one of several child-friendly locations in town celebrating a "countdown to noon."

"Actually, his nap time is at noon, so we're staying up extra late in order to do the countdown!" said one mother.

Matthew Gorman, one of the partners of Nest, says this is the third year for this kiddie New Year's Eve party.

"It's just a way to get them to participate and be able for them to count down and just hang out for the new year as a family," he said, "and obviously most kids are not going to be staying up until midnight to do so."

New moms and dads tell me that when you have little ones, you have to adjust how you celebrate.

"Times have definitely changed, so this is our big celebration," said one.  "We plan to be in bed -- hopefully -- at midnight."
