For Phila. Region's Digital Health Startups, $6 Million Up For Grabs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Digital health promises to revolutionize how we manage wellness and deal with disease. Philadelphia startups with a vision of that future can get a boost, thanks to a new multi-million dollar fund.

Those putting $6 million in the pot over the next four years include Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Independence Health Group, and Safeguard Scientifics, where David Luk is a principal.

"We think digital health is a real burgeoning pillar of the Philadelphia economy."

Seed- or early-stage companies in the area can qualify for $50,000 to $1 million to make our lives better through their innovations in healthcare IT.

"This is a very pivotal time for the convergence of both the digital and genomic revolutions of health, healthcare, and really a society as a whole. We believe Philadelphia is really well-positioned to take a role of national prominence in the digital health industry."
