For One Mt. Airy Man, A Slick Post-Blizzard Commute

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) -- There's no such thing as a snow day for Mark Fallon, a senior naturalist at Briar Bush Nature Center in Abington. He has to make sure the animals are taken care of, even in extreme weather.

"Normally, I ride my bike. I work in Abington and go from Mt. Airy. This morning I knew the bus was probably going to be a little bit unpredictable, and obviously the bike was not gonna work, so I decided to cross-country ski," he tells KYW Newsradio.

So, how was his unusual commute this morning?

"Predominantly I was on the sidewalk," he says. "I left at about 5:30 (in the morning), but a lot of people had already shoveled their portion of the sidewalk, so I tended to go around those, on the street, a little bit."

Kuznits: "So you were looking for the snow!"

"Yes, exactly."

Fallon works about six miles from his home. At around 3½ miles, he caught a bus.

(Fallon:) "The driver did look at me when I got on the bus and said, 'Why didn't you just ski the whole way?' "

(Kuznits:) "Why didn't you?"

(Fallon:) "Ugh. It would've taken a long time."

He says he arrived at work in good spirits.

"I think more people should be doing it. It was great exercise, it was a beautiful morning."

(Kuznits:) "Did you have a good time?"

(Fallon:) "Yeah, it was a lot of fun."
