Food Truck Review: No. 40

KUNG FU HOAGIES

I am a carnivore. A red meat eater. A lover of the rib. So the idea of a vegetarian food truck is not in my wheelhouse. But a close friend of mine is a vegan – albeit a tolerable one. So we ventured together to Kung Fu Hoagies, catching up with the red-and-yellow truck in early April at the Manayunk Streat Festival.

The veggie banh mi bi chay vegetarian pork hoagie was $6, and it packed a lot onto a crispy long roll. We tasted a nice mix of veggies (perhaps too much cilantro), and a zesty combo of flavors and textures. It tasted like there were crunched up potato chips on the sandwich, although that wouldn't seem to fit the healthy profile here.

Vegetarian pork? Sure, that's a contradiction in terms. We found it decent. Our vegetarian friend gave it a thumbs up. I'll concede that I may not be the most qualified judge for this one.
