Food Truck Review: No. 29

HAPPY PITA

Rumbling out of Parkesburg, Chester County, the Happy Pita Truck (www.thehappypita.com) serves up gyros and rollups that seem fresh and well prepared. We caught up with them one Tuesday afternoon at The Porch at the 30th Street Station – a great site if you want to check out food trucks. There are two new ones there every day.

A chicken gyro cost $8.50 and came with a long list of ingredients: Chicken (you could choose beef also) with arugula, tomato, onion, pickles, banana peppers, hummus, tzatziki sauce, tahini, cucumbers and feta. There's a lot going on there. It all meshed quite well – although picking up this hefty pocket of pita bread proved impossible. Much as I disdain anyone who eats pizza with a knife and fork, there was little choice here.

There's a decent Buffalo chicken rollup, as well as various versions of hummus and falafel and other offerings that drive me to spellcheck. Anyway, we've had a bad pita experience during the Food Truck Frenzy. This one restored our faith in Mediterranean food.

Score – 81/100
