F&M Poll Shows Support For Wolf's Tax Proposals

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new Franklin and Marshall College Poll shows support for Governor Wolf's proposal to restructure the state's taxes.

Franklin and Marshall College Poll Director Terry Madonna says there is strong support for the governor's budget plan, which would impose a tax on natural gas drilling, and would increase sales and income taxes while reducing property taxes:

"That idea is very popular. About six in ten voters favor the package, largely, I think, because the property tax is the most hated tax."

The F&M Poll shows 38-percent of voters surveyed believe Governor Wolf is doing a "good" or "excellent" job. That's better than former Governor Corbett at this early point, but not as good as former Governors Ridge and Rendell.

"It's lower than I would have thought, but we're just basically talking about somebody who's been in office a couple of months," Madonna says.

In the race for U.S. Senate, the poll shows Republican incumbent Pat Toomey leading Democrat Joe Sestak by five points, with more than a third of voters undecided.
