Flyers Sign Goalie Michal Neuvirth

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Flyers have signed 6-1, 190-lb unrestricted free agent goaltender Michal Neuvirth to a multi-year contract, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

Neuvirth, 27 (3/23/1988), will be entering his eighth NHL season.  He comes to Philadelphia from the New York Islanders, who acquired him from the Buffalo Sabres at the 2015 trade deadline.  In 32 total games over the 2014-15 season between the Sabres and Islanders, Neuvirth went 7-20-4 with a 2.98 GAA and a .914 save percentage.

Neuvirth was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the second round (34th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.  He played parts of six seasons for Washington, posting a record of 59-41-13 with a 2.67 GAA and a .910 save percentage over 134 appearances.  In 168 NHL games, Neuvirth has a record of 66-63-17 with a 2.73 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

A native of Usti Nad Labem, Czech Republic, Neuvirth helped lead Washington's AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, to consecutive Calder Cup championships in 2009 and 2010.  He won the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as AHL playoff MVP in 2009 after going 16-6 with a 1.92 GAA, a .932 save percentage and four shutouts during the Bears' playoff run.
