PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare has been suspended one game after illegally checking Dmitry Orlov of the Capitals, from behind, during the Flyers' Game 3 loss to the Capitals.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced the decision on Tuesday afternoon.

The hit took place during the third period and Bellemare was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit. The play led to a brawl on the ice and was the kickoff point of a series of events that led to the Flyers fans throwing bracelets onto the ice.
