Flyered Up Fans Ready For Game 1 Against Rangers

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Flyers fans are getting ready for the team's playoff run which begins tonight in New York.

KYW's Tim Jimenez spoke to some of the diehards who kept the faith despite a poor start and a coaching change.

After a one year absence, the Flyers are back in the playoffs, taking on the Rangers. Fans like Dan from Philadelphia cannot wait.

"They proved a couple of years ago, anything can happen. It's a whole new season," he said.

But it's a run that might not have happened, had the team not recovered from the worst start in team history at one and seven, including the firing of head coach Peter Laviollete after going winless in the first three. Flyers fan Derrick says he never stopped believing, especially with Craig Berube the new man in charge.

"I was right there with them, one of those diehard fans. I'm a season ticket holder and I knew once they got going and once he got his offense going that we were going to start to win some games," he said.

Now, the challenge ahead: Their starting goalie on the shelf and an eight game losing streak on the road at Madison Square Garden.

"A little scary but, why not? Why not tonight?"
