Flu Vaccine Mist In Short Supply

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --   It's flu season and there's still time to get protection.  Unfortunately, one of the methods is in short supply.

You can get protection from the flu with an injection in the arm or leg, or a quick spritz of mist up the nose. But FluMist is in short supply this year according to Dr. Michelle Karten, a pediatrician with Main Line Health in Villanova.

"We got about a hundred doses very early in our season and those went very quickly we usually get significantly more I know the production this year is only about a third of what it usually is, so it's been a struggle," Karten told KYW Newsradio.

The reason for the shortage is a production problem at the manufacturer. Dr. Karten says the only option now is for flu shot.

And there's still time- flu season runs through the month of April.
