Flower Show Preview: Stoney Bank Nurseries

By Molly Daly

GLEN MILLS, Pa. (CBS) -- For this year's Philadelphia Flower Show, titled "ARTiculture," some major exhibitors are being paired with the country's great art institutions.

And for Stoney Bank Nurseries in Glen Mills (Delaware County), the Brandywine River Museum in nearby Chadds Ford was a natural fit.

"We're calling the exhibit 'Beauty of the Brandywine,' " says Stoney Bank founder Jack Blandy, "and we actually have the Brandywine River running through the exhibit."

Blandy says the exhibit, inspired by the art of  the Wyeths -- NC, Andrew, and Jamie -- will feature native plants, with the unifying theme a tree species that appears in the work of all three.

"We're forcing eight or ten, 30-foot-high sycamore trees into full leaf," along with about 200 species of flowering plants, he tells KYW Newsradio.

When Jack and I talked, there was less than a month to go till his thirty-fifth Flower Show appearance.

"I start not sleeping at night now," he acknowledged.  "It gets a little tense."

So why keep doing do it?

"It's been a wonderful experience, and a wonderful way for us to give back, too."
