Flower Shop Prepares For Hectic Valentine's Day Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The rush is on for florists across the Delaware Valley.

"Stein Your Florist" company in Mayfair was busy taking deliveries of long-stem roses Friday morning.

Owner Patrick Kelly has his routine down pat.

First inspect, unpack, then create.

Stein on Frankford Avenue is a Philly favorite.

The family owned business is now more than 125 years old, but each Valentine's Day brings new challenges.

This year, business is spread out over several days since the holiday is on Sunday.

And while there will be fewer office deliveries, Kelly still anticipates filling a couple thousand orders.

"Our goal every Valentine's Day is to keep them from having to line up in the street."

This extreme cold is also throwing florists for a loop. Flowers can freeze in a matter of minutes. So they can't leave deliveries outside, and they have to keep the vans nice and warm.

So, take a cue from the professionals.

"A guy said he'd leave them in his trunk overnight. We said you can't do that because they'll freeze. "

Whether a fan of the traditional beauties, or the bedazzled unconventional, there are plenty of ways to say 'I love you' to someone special this weekend.
