Fitness Tracker For Kids To Hit Shelves This Summer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There's a new fitness band on the market, and it's targeted at the under 10 crowd.

LeapBand, a kid-friendly fitness band from the toy company LeapFrog, is set to arrive in the U.S. this summer.

"Hop like a kangaroo! Wiggle like a worm!" a video on the company's website advertising the tracker, which allows kids to "track their progress" and earn points for exercising, exclaims.

LeapBand also gives parents the option to program "audio challenges" for their tot. And like the Tamagatchi of the late 90s, kids can even "adopt" a "customisable [sic] pet pal" and take care of it.

The tracker, which looks sort of like an amped up digital watch, is water-resistant, rechargeable and comes in four colors. It will reportedly retail for around $40.

And with new studies showing most children don't get enough exercise, it's no wonder kid-geared companies are trying to cash in on the fit-band frenzy, too.
