First Lady Jill Biden visits Atlantic City as part of "Investing in America" tour

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- It's been more than 30 years since Atlantic City hosted the National Governors Association Annual meeting. But, this year it's back in the Garden State.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden spent her summers growing up down the Shore and on Thursday she was back in Atlantic City for a speech on workforce development during the National Governors Association Annual Meeting at the Hard Rock Casino.

"I think governors understand that preparing our workforce is so much bigger than a blue issue or a red issue," Dr. Biden said.

Dr. Biden is traveling the country as part of the Biden Administration's Investing in America Tour.

She is a community college professor and she touched on the need of investing in workforce training programs that help prepare high school and community college students for high-paying jobs.

"We have to find innovative ways to connect to students and employers so that every student in every community can find the path that works for them," Dr. Biden said.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is the chair of the NGA this year. He says having the annual meeting in Atlantic City for the first time since 1981 is a big deal.

"We have a huge crowd here; they expected 600, we have close to 1000. We also have 20 odd governors from both sides of the aisle, it's a huge point of pride," Murphy said.

The annual meeting wraps up on Friday.

The White House says the first lady will continue her message across the country over the next two weeks.

Dr. Biden is set to travel to Pittsburgh next week.
