First Day For Broad Street Run Hopefuls To Sign Up For Lottery

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Runners are limbering up this morning to hit the computer keys! It's the first day you can enter the lottery to register for this year's Broad Street Run.

Organizers limit the number of runners to 40,000 for safety reasons.

"It doesn't matter if they're the first person to register for the lottery or the last person twelve days later," says event director Jim Marino.

He says everyone has an equal opportunity to be in the event:

"The computer selects everyone from the random draw out of the lottery, then we send notification to all the runners who have been accepted or not accepted."

Marino says you can enter the lottery online and your credit card will only be charged if you're accepted.

You can guarantee yourself a spot in the race if you run on a team for one of the four affiliated charities. Team members have to agree to raise $500,000 in pledges.
