Two Alarm Blaze Burns Through Historic Hainesport Church

HAINESPORT, N.J. (CBS) -- Firefighters in Burlington County battled a two-alarm blaze in Hainesport through the morning on Tuesday.

Around 3 a.m., a fire tore through church offices in a building that dates back to the 1800s -- part of the Easton Bible Church at 2407 Fostertown Road.

One of the Pastors, Steve Johannson, lives on the property with his family. He says it was a scary scene at 3 a.m.

"Our door kind of faces the offices to the church and saw flames coming out of the offices there. So I called 911 and got the family out," he says.

No one was injured.

Johannson says his home is mostly fine and the sanctuary was spared as well, but smoke damage is still a concern. The fire destroyed the office wing of the church.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Johansson says about 500 people belong to this church.
