Havertown House Fire Claims The Life Of An Elderly Man

HAVERTOWN, Pa., (CBS) – Crews were on the scene battling a house fire in Havertown, Delaware County on Monday morning. Officials say the fire claimed the life of an 85-year-old man.

The fire broke out just after 10:00 a.m. at a home on the 500 block of Strathmore Road.

The victim, Bob Fox, was rushed to the hospital due to cardiac arrest and later died as a result.

The cold conditions generated thick smoke and made for very difficult conditions in which to fight a fire. "I saw really high flames shooting out from the roof of that house," said neighbor Julia Cohen. "It was one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

Neighbors say that Fox was well known around town. He was a retired photographer for the Philadelphia Bulletin Newspaper and also ran a beekeeping business.
