Shoppers Accused Of Hiding Stolen Merchandise Under Infant At Cherry Hill Mall

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) -- Two females hid $500 in stolen merchandise underneath an infant at the Cherry Hill Mall, police said.

The incident happened at about 4:40 p.m. on December 27th at the Sephora Store inside the Cherry Hill Mall.

According to investigators, officers from the Cherry Hill Police Department were called to the store for the report of two females being detained for shoplifting.

Police say the females were observed concealing cosmetics totaling over $500 underneath a four-month-old infant, who was inside a car seat mounted to a stroller.

The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Amanda Platt and 34-year-old Pornthip Charoensook.

Both have been charged with shoplifting and using a juvenile to commit a criminal offense.

Police say Charoensook was additionally charged with hindering apprehension after providing false information regarding her identity.

Both women were released on their own recognizance.

The incident was referred to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
