Father, Daughter Arrested In Attack On Man In Queen Village

By Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police say a man and his daughter have been arrested and charged in the beating and shooting of a man in the city's Queen Village neighborhood.

Authorities say warrants were issued for the arrest of 62-year old Carmen D'Amato and his daughter, 36-year old Rita D'Amato, on Friday. They say the pair surrendered to police around 6:00 that evening.

According to police, the D'Amatos are the pair seen in surveillance video approaching the 36-year-old victim just before 3 a.m. on October 25. They say Rita struck the man in the chest with a baseball bat, and then, when the victim ran, Carmen fired two shots that struck him in the leg.

The D'Amatos fled before police arrived to find the victim near 2nd and Carpenter Streets with a broken leg.

Both father and daughter are being charged with aggravated assault and related offenses.

There were a string of car break-ins in the area, but police have not confirmed whether the attack is related to those incidents.
