Father And Son Killed In Jet Skiing Accident

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fun day out on the water at the Jersey Shore turned tragic, after a father and son were killed in a watercraft accident in Somers Point.

A family friend told CBS3 the son was just nine years old.

Witnesses said the water was full of people on boats and jet skis, when two jet skis collided just before 5 p.m. on the Patcong Creek.

Melissa Splendido was bringing in her boat for dinnertime and saw police, tow boats and people rendering emergency aid to the father at the dock.

"It has been very unsettling tonight, knowing what had happened, that we came upon that," she said. "Thinking about them and thinking about their families and just hoping that everyone is doing okay tonight."

Medics took the person on the other jet ski to Shore Memorial Hospital.

State police are investigating the cause of the accident.

A family friend of the father and son said they were visiting New Jersey from out of state.
