Man hit and killed by car in North Philadelphia, police searching for driver

A man died early Sunday morning after he was hit by a car in North Philadelphia's Glenwood neighborhood.

Philadelphia Police said officers were called to the corner of North 12th Street and West Lehigh Avenue around 1:45 a.m. on May 25 for a report of a crash. In an update Sunday afternoon, police said the driver of a white Honda Accord was speeding when they hit a man who was crossing Lehigh Avenue.

The victim, identified by police as 32-year-old Nafeece Acquil Jenkins, was found lying on the road by officers and pronounced dead minutes later.

Police said that the Honda driver fled from the scene, but the car was eventually found abandoned on the 1200 block of Park Avenue, less than a block away from the collision site. The car had heavy damage to the front end as well as to the windshield.

Investigators canvassed the area Sunday morning to look for security camera footage to help provide more information.
