Fan Celebrates 76th Birthday With A Long Journey To The 76ers Game

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Friday night marked Harold Sampson's 76th birthday and he enjoyed the occasion by watching one of his favorite teams, the Philadelphia 76ers. Given the team's name, it is fitting way to celebrate the particular birthday, but Sampson took the celebration a few steps further.

Sampson walked to the Sixers game. He does not live in South Philadelphia by the way. Sampson is from Broomall, Delaware County.

Sampson has a passion for staying fit and for the Sixers. He decided to bring those two passions together on his birthday.

"I've stuck with them for all these years regardless of whether they were successful or night because it is my belief that loyalty is important," Sampson said of the Sixers.

Sampson began the journey in his Broomall neighborhood with his nephew by his side. Sampson trained for this experience at Marple Newtown High School and received a bit of an energy boost as he passed by the school on the way to the game to see his Sixers play the Toronto Raptors.

"Every day is a gift," Sampson said. "I'm thankful everyday and I'll cross tomorrow when it comes tomorrow. I've walked the walk and now I've earned the right to talk the talk."

Sampson's completed journey culminated with a seat courtside at the Sixers game.
