Famous Philadelphia Vietnam War Memorial Vandalized In Center City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Officials are looking for vandals who they say caused about a thousand dollars worth of damage to Philadelphia's Vietnam Memorial.

Nick Moran, the custodian at the memorial says when he went to the site Tuesday he noticed several star medallions had been stolen from the memorial.

"It's very sad, it's like somebody sticking a knife in me," Moran said. "There's people who really don't care about our memorial."

Moran says this is not the first time someone has damage the memorial, but he's hoping this time police can bring the responsible parties to justice.

"We're trying to get surveillance on the cameras we'll see if we can find out who did this," he said.

Moran estimates that it will cost between 700 and 15 hundred dollars to replace the medallions and fix the memorial.
