Family Escapes Partial House Collapse In Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- A family narrowly escaped their home after it partially collapsed late Sunday night in Camden, New Jersey.

It happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. along the 400 block of Line Street.

Three adults and a two-year-old child were in the home when the collapse occurred.

The homeowner says he knew that the home was in bad shape, but didn't have the money to get it fixed.

Ali Niger, a resident of the home, says the problems date back more than a decade, when there was a fire next door and that building was demolished.

He says that demo damaged his own home and he's been trying to get it fixed ever since.

"That's when we tried to get the city to do what they can, they actually came out and put up a barricade and gave my parents til the 26th to get it fixed or demo it." Says Niger, "So you know, forty thousand dollars that we don't have, would have fixed it."

There were no serious injuries and the family is being helped by the American Red Cross.
