Fairmount Park Recognized As One Of Great Places In America
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fairmount Park is being recognized as of one of the Great Places in America by the American Planning Association, an organization of urban planners.
The APA's awards fall into three categories; Great Neighborhoods, Great Streets and Great Public Spaces. Fairmount Park has been honored as one of the country's five Great Public Spaces. And visitors along Kelly Drive all seem to agree.
Darnell, pushing his son Landon in a stroller, was walking along Boathouse Row with a friend.
"We're out here with Sean, he's recuperating from his back, so we're just out here walking."
Sean agrees it is a great space.
"The greenery, the landscaping, the trails up there. It's really amazing. It's a nice area."
"I remember coming here when I was just maybe two or three years old, probably about 30 years I've been coming out here."
Bob's a regular visitor from Blackwood, New Jersey.
"We come over with our family, and it's a great bike ride along Kelly Drive and West River Drive."
Kasey of Goals Fitness was leading a Mommy and Me class.
"We use this park a ton. You can go in back of the Art Museum, you can go in front of the Art Museum, you could go by the Waterworks, there's a bunch of hills. I kind of view it as my gym -- with really cheap rent."
